The Mazama Store offers a fuel station and groceries, including fresh coffee and breakfast sandwiches, locally-sourced produce, artisan gifts, and baked goods made on-site. For sustenance, grab a pre-or-post-adventure bite and brew at Mazama Public House. And, if you need to gear up for exploration, look no further than Goat’s Beard Mountain Supplies.

Additional shopping, dining, and activities can be found in nearby Winthrop and Twisp—a mere 15-30-minute drive away.

Mazama is the ideal destination for outdoor recreation all year long—and Base Camp 49 is at the heart of it all with many activities just steps from your casita!

The nordic trails are literally on your front door step! Need equipment? The folks at Winthrop Mountain Sports and the Mazama Ski School will take care of all of your needs. Trail passes can be purchased right at BaseCamp 49. See the information board onsite.

Nature Trails

See the slopes of the North Cascades in full bloom on some of the best day hikes in the country! Blue Lake and Hart’s Pass are some of the most popular late summer hikes.

Rock climbing enthusiasts can find a wide variety of routes ranging from beginner to expert level climbing crags! There are many local climbing experts in the area to guide you as well. Check in with the folks at the Goats Beard and North Cascade Mountain Guides right in Mazama for all your adventure needs! Fun Rock and the Mazama Climbing Park is minutes from Base Camp 49 along with Goat Creek Climbing Park. For the diehards, Washington Pass is 15 minutes away.

Looking for an adrenaline rush? Whitewater rafting is a great way to spend a summer day on the Methow River!

Tubing

Float the Methow River and enjoy Winthrops’ beautiful scenery! While there are certain parts of the river that are used for whitewater rafting, there are plenty of mellow and scenic floating areas.

Home to one of the largest populations of mule deer in the country, October attracts sportsmen from all over the West. With a population of over 17,000 mule deer, hunting in the hills of Methow Valley is a popular fall sport.

Fishing

Fly fishing in the Big Twin Lake is a popular summer activity. With hatches of chironomids, damselflies, and mayflies during late April, this lake is a bug factory and almost guarantees a catch! Or maybe you're looking to just throw a line from the bank of one of the many lakes in the Methow such as Pearrygyn Lake, Blackpine Lake, or Patterson lake. Several locations in Winthrop offer fishing license services.

Early Winters Outfitters is minutes down the highway from Base Camp 49 and offers trail rides on the trails out your doors. There are other options available through the Methow Valley.

Methow Valley Rodeo

The Annual Methow Valley Rodeo is something you just can’t miss! Featuring barrel racing, bulls, mutton bustin’, and tons of Junior Rodeo events! Events take place both Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. It's not called the Best Little Rodeo in the West for nothing!

Farmers Market

Methow Valley Farmers Markets go on every Saturday from the beginning of April until the end of October. Check out amazing local vendors and food! They can be found in Twisp and Winthrop.

Mazama is home to the largest groomed cross-country ski trail system in North America. Explore 120 miles of trails right from your doorstep!
